Corns are hard areas of dead cells in corniform epidermis. They are located in deeper layers of skin. They have a core or a so- called cone- shaped roots which are ingrowing deeply down in the foot. Corns are caused by fraction and permanent topical pressure. In most cases they are very painful. They are located in metatarsal, wall of the nail or under the nail plate. Corns shall be removed to prevent them from pushing deeper and deeper into the layers of the skin and to avoid unpleasant pain. Please note that the older the corn, the more difficult it is to be completely removed during one session. The type of therapy and a number of sessions depends on how long it has been remaining on the skin. Corns are recurring condition because permanent changes in the skeletal system of a foot may exert pressure and cause irritation on different regions of the skin. That is why prevention in this regard is so important. New comfortable shoes, individual orthopaedic insoles, supports and amortization device are worth buying. However, regular appointments in podiatry clinic are the most beneficial as painful corns may be removed with a rotary milling cutter or scalpel.
