The cause of fungal nail infection may be unhealed fungal infection of feet. Due to this condition the nails change its colour from pink to yellowish and greyish, sometimes greenish. The nails are grooved by furrows and break easily. Hyperkeratosis under thickened and cracked edges of nail plates is a typical symptom. Firstly, the fungal infection develops on one nail, but later it gradually spreads to other nail plates. It is worth noticing that fungal infection is a common condition which is easily transmitted by people of different ages. This condition shall not be ignored as it might lead to further complications. The podologist’s job is combined with dermatological treatment and it involves proper recognition of the type of fungus (mycological test), removal of damaged parts of the nail, cleansing and reconstruction of the nail plate.
